How Do Clear Aligners Work?
When you visit our office for a consultation, Dr. Saurer will discuss all your orthodontic options and answer your questions to help determine whether clear aligners are ideal for you. In order to create your aligners, we will capture digital impressions of your mouth. You'll come back to our Dublin, OH office for a follow-up appointment so we can fit your aligners. After this, you can expect to have appointments every few weeks. During this time, Dr. Saurer will assess your progress and issue replacement aligners as your teeth adjust. Based on the position of your teeth and the amount of correction needed, your prescribed orthodontic treatment could take 12 – 24 months (about eight phases of treatment). Once your treatment is finished, you will receive a retainer to keep your teeth from shifting.

Does wearing clear aligners hurt?
No, most patients do not find wearing clear aligners painful or even uncomfortable. While there can be some minor temporary soreness or sensitivity as the teeth adjust to a new tray, it is typically short-lived and does not cause pain.
How long do you have to wear clear aligners?
It depends on the condition of your teeth, but most patients will wear their clear aligners for about 12 – 24 months. During your consultation with Dr. Saurer, she will examine your teeth and then be able to give you a better expectation of how long your treatment regimen will last.
How often are the clear aligner trays changed out?
Depending on your progress, most patients will receive a new set of aligner trays every few weeks.
How long do I have to wear the trays every day?
To achieve the best results in the shortest amount of time, Dr. Saurer usually recommends that patients wear their clear aligners at least 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat, brush and floss, or for a special occasion.
Will I have to wear a retainer after my clear aligner treatment is over?
Yes, you will. Every patient is given a retainer after their clear aligner treatment program is finished to keep their teeth from shifting and to preserve their beautiful, straighter new smile.
