What Is Photobiomodulation Therapy?
Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is an exciting and relatively new treatment method in the dental field that can treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions noninvasively. Using the power of light energy, PBM treatments stimulate cell activity and blood circulation to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. PBM is sometimes referred to as Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or cold lasers.

How Is Dental PBM Therapy For Performed?
After your initial consultation with Dr. Saurer and/or a member of the River Park Dental and Esthetics team to make sure that a PBM treatment plan is right for you and your symptoms, we will take you to a comfortable treatment room and give you a pair of goggles — so the low-level laser doesn’t get in your eyes. After that, we will begin the PBM session by moving a laser light device over the area(s) of your mouth and jaw where pain or wounds are to be addressed. In all, the treatment should take no longer than 15 – 30 minutes to complete. The treatment is noninvasive and painless. The number of treatments you ultimately receive at our Dublin, OH facility will depend on your condition and pain level. More acute ailments may only require a single treatment session, while a more chronic condition like TMD may necessitate a few treatments per week over the course of 3 – 4 weeks.
